This plan is built for the runner who has already finished at least one marathon and wants to take the next step up, without jumping straight into a 50 miler or 100. 39.3 miles, roughly 63km, is exactly three half marathons back to back, a genuine ultra distance that respects where you’re coming from rather than assuming years of ultra experience you don’t have yet.
This plan is not for you if:
- You have never finished a marathon. Build that foundation first with one of our marathon plans, this plan assumes 26.2 miles is already comfortably behind you.
- You are targeting 50 miles or further, or you already have ultra finishes under your belt. You need more back-to-back volume and longer time-on-feet work than this plan is built to give you.
- You are carrying an unresolved injury. See a physio before you start any new block, ultra training punishes small problems that marathon training might let you get away with.
